Reflections on Week 2

Muddled sketches of stairs and their importance. Between levels, the stair is the entrance to a room and influences the viewer's first impression of the space. Stairs should act as a transition for the viewer, providing information about the two spaces that the stair connects.

Stair concept for connecting the ground level to below and into Shinya's garage.
Jacky's suggestions for SketchUp model 1: Protruding the external skin of Shinya's studio and garage partially above ground. Adding glazed windows on the exposed skin above ground to allow sunlight in and a view in Shinya's garage to see him at work. Exaggerating the flow and curviness of Jiro's studio above ground and having this skin act as the columns of the structure too,  much like in Zaha Hadid's railway station in the Austrian Alps (below).

First Task

Creative Piece

This was my major work for year 12 in 2011. I took these photos while on a trip to Papua New Guinea, most notably at the Bomana War Cemetery, where over 1000 soldiers from both the ADF and the PNGDF are buried after WWII. My series of portraits primarily addresses the enduring connection between Australia and Papua New Guinea since WWII.

Great piece of Architecture

The Walt Disney Concert Hall on California is a great, modern piece of architecture that both captures the eye and the mood of the day by reflecting shimmering qualities of light. The concert hall is a great example of how architectural design can communicate the function of the building to the everyday person.
